Electronic Arts plans to revamp the way we look at Monopoly with their latest take on the greatest board game of all time, Monopoly Streets.
Available this Fall on the PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360, Monopoly Streets will suck players into the street level of the Monopoly world to play the game amongst the very properties they are buying and selling. This will allow players to "become completely immersed within a Monopoly-themed world, re-imagined to experience the game at street level. Developing properties within high rent districts will produce lavish houses and hotels that appear within the world and further substantiate its visual appeal, while developing in the less expensive areas provide more modest, but no less interesting, establishments. The game will also feature player-owned headquarters that rise and fall along with the Player's fortunes Ц large and luxurious when winning, stunted and minuscule when losing."
EA plans to further immerse Wii and Xbox 360 owners into the game by allowing those players to use their Wii Mii or Xbox 360 Avatar as their token. If that doesn't stop the fights over who gets to be the car then perhaps downloadable tokens and themed boards, which EA plans to offer after Streets ships, will. The Monopoly Streets will also be lined with ethernet cables as online play and local, national and worldwide leaderboards will also be available.
If this new way of playing Monopoly doesn't appeal, EA has also pledged to include classic board options in Monopoly Streets as well. And on that note, a classic version of
Monopoly will be released for the DS this Fall alongside Monopoly Streets.
We'll have more soon.
