News: But will it be called Dante's Purgatory?
Visceral Games has posted a job listing at Gamasutra that more or less confirms that development on Dante's Inferno 2 has already begun.
The listing shows that the game is in development for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. But the key piece of evidence is the following sentences from the ad:
"This project is the sequel to a major new IP at the award-winning Visceral Games, creators of Dead Space and Dante's Inferno. [...] The game sequel will set new quality standards and make the franchise the world-leader in the action/melee-combat genre."
Visceral has created only two game franchises in their short life: Dead Space and Dante's Inferno. And only one is an "action/melee" game. So, the process of elimination states that the game must be Dante's Inferno 2.
Dante's Inferno was tailor-made for sequels as The Divine Comedy was originally segregated into a trilogy of stories when it was written in the fourteenth century. The second part of the poem, Purgatory, involves Dante's ascent up the Mount of Purgatory.
No other details about the game were revealed in the job posting, but the position title is "Environment Artist." So whoever is hired will be creating the world of Purgatory for Visceral Games.
We'll have more soon.
