News: Keyboards confirmed for Harmonix's next music game.

Harmonix has just added a demo for Green Day: Rock Band to the Xbox Live Marketplace. The demo includes two songs, "Welcome to Paradise" and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," which are both playable in offline band play.

While that's great news for fans of Billie Joe and the boys, the real news is that the demo also includes a teaser screen for Rock Band 3. On track for a Fall release on the PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360, the image includes a fifth instrument never before seen in Rock Band history: a piano.

It's currently unknown what form this new instrument will take, but a small keyboard (or possibly even a keytar) opens up a ton of new options for the Rock Band franchise. For example, I'm sure Harmonix is deep in discussions with Billy Joel to get "Piano Man" into the game. I'd also bet good money that Ben Folds and Tori Amos are on the developer's short list.

Whatever they have planned, I'm sure we'll learn more at E3 as Harmonix has a history of making a big splash at the big industry show.
