News: Yes, that's the same day as Halo: Reach.
Do you want to know who's not afraid of Halo: Reach? Square Enix, that's who, as today they announced that Front Mission Evolved will be released for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 14.
Making the jump from turn-based strategy to third-person shooter, Front Mission Evolved is being developed outside of Square Enix by Double Helix Games. Even with the genre switch, the game will once again center around a future war between soldiers piloting giant mechs known as wanzers.
Evolved will also bring online multiplayer (on all three platforms) and a a stereoscopic 3D mode (on the PC only), powered by NVIDIA's 3D Vision, to the series for the first time. This same 3D technology was used in
Batman: Arkham Asylum - Game of the Year Edition, another recent Square Enix release.
"Both Square Enix and Double Helix Games are committed to delivering the ultimate, evolved Front Mission experience," said Ami Blaire, Vice President, Marketing of Square Enix, Inc. "This installment advances the franchise into the third-person shooter genre, and come fall, fans will be blown away by the high-octane action that Front Mission Evolved offers."
We'll have more soon.
