News: With Chris Taylor and Gas Powered Games providing advisement.
Obsidian Entertainment continues their string of picking up sequels that other developers don't have time for with today's announcement of Dungeon Siege III. The first two games (and their expansions) in the Dungeon Siege series were developed by Chris Taylor's Gas Powered Games. While Obsidian is the primary developer, Taylor and his company have pledged to provide guidance and input during the game's development.
This development will take the series to consoles for the first time as Dungeon Siege III is in the works for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. However, publisher Square Enix was not ready to reveal a release date or even say if the game would be showcased in any way at next week's E3 Expo.
What they are ready to talk about is that Dungeon Siege III will feature an "evolved action-RPG experience" as players battle "all manner of villains and beasts through a combination of heroic abilities, screen shaking magic and pure cunning." Thankfully, they won't take up the first alone as Dungeon Siege III will bring a co-op multiplayer mode to the series for the first time.
Original developer Chris Taylor seems very excited about this new entry in the series, "It's a great pleasure to collaborate with Obsidian. They are a very talented developer who really knows what it takes to build a deep and engaging RPG experience, and I can't think of a better group to continue the Dungeon Siege series."
"It's a distinct privilege and thrill to become a part of the Dungeon Siege legacy," said Feargus Urquhart, CEO and Co-Founder of Obsidian Entertainment, Inc. "This partnership with Square Enix is a milestone for both Obsidian and the franchise, and the two companies' strengths for compelling characters and storytelling will shine throughout Dungeon Siege 3."
We'll have more soon.
