News: If not, it should be, because it's ****in' amazing.

A very interesting video was uploaded on YouTube today courtesy of a new user named MortalKombatRebirth.

The video shows a futuristic cityscape under siege. Detective Jackson Briggs is briefing an informant, Hanzo Hasashi (AKA Scorpion), on two dangerous killers: Baraka and Reptile. In the course of their conversation, the detective and Scorpion are joined by Sonya Blade, who reveals that Johnny Cage has been murdered and the presumed dead Sub-Zero is still alive.

Sounds like a rather elaborate fan film doesn't it? And that wouldn't be a crazy thought, but this particular short stars professional actors Michael Jai White as Jax and Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade.

So now we have two questions: "Is this a trailer for a new Mortal Kombat movie titled Mortal Kombat: Rebirth?" or "Is this a live-action teaser for the announced, but unseen, Mortal Kombat 9?"

It's unlikely that this clip belongs to a new Mortal Kombat movie as Hollywood loves to crow about casting coups and we would have heard something about this well before it reached the filming stage.

One strike against the idea that this is a viral tease for Mortal Kombat 9 is that no one had purchased the MortalKombatRebirth.com domain before the video was posted. The URL now belongs to MK fans TRMK.com.

Whatever's up with this video, it is a truly excellent piece of cinema. Watch it for yourself right here:
