News: Hopefully Halo fans are more accepting than Star Wars geeks.
Tor Books has announced that the next novel set in the Halo universe will be written by Karen Traviss. Traviss is best known for her contributions to the Star Wars Expanded Universe and the rather contentious relationship with her fans. Hopefully, Halo fans will be more forgiving of any perceived "mistakes."
The currently untitled novel will be a follow-up to Halo: Ghosts of Onyx and will fill in more of the events from the aftermath of Halo 3.
Besides her work for LucasArts, Traviss has dipped her pen into adapting video games before. She has written both of the novels based on the
Gears of War series, Aspho Fields and Jacinto's Remnant. A third, Anvil's Gate, is currently scheduled for release this Fall. In addition, Traviss will do more than adapt the events of
Gears of War 3 as Epic announced she would be the lead writer of the game back in April.
Traviss also has a previous credit in the Halo universe, the short story "Human Weakness," which appeared in the Halo: Evolutions anthology.
УWhen I was invited to write Halo fiction I already knew it'd be right up my street; not just because military fiction is my specialty, but because there's also huge unexplored depth, grey areas, and really uncomfortable moral dilemmas that underpin the Halo story, and that's like catnip to a writer like me. I write what's known as tight third person Ц that is, I get right inside each character's head and see the world as they see experience it Ц and Halo offers some terrific chances to explore some fascinating psyches caught in complex situations.Ф
We'll have more soon.
