News: Provided the world doesn't end first, of course.
Have you been itching to play Final Fantasy Versus XIII and are annoyed by Square Enix's continue refusal to talk about the game? Well, you might want to sit down for what Yoshinori Kitase, one of the game's producers, has to say.
He spoke to Gaming Union at this year's Gamescom expo and revealed that Versus XIII is still a very long way away. In Kitase's own words, he puts a 2011 release for the PS3-exclusive in doubt:
"We have no release date information to update. Unfortunately we can't say anything about that. We can't commit ourselves to 2011 either."
While this statement doesn't guarantee that the game won't make it out in 2011, it certainly makes it less likely. It's also a sure sign that Versus XIII is still very early in the development process.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII was first announced in 2006 as part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis compilation. While it doesn't have any direct connection to Final Fantasy XIII, Versus XIII is being designed as an action RPG to complement the more tradional RPG play of that game.
We'll hopefully have more on Final Fantasy Versus XIII soon, but I wouldn't hold your breath.
