News: And Dante got a dye job.

Capcom has opened this year's Tokyo Game Show with a ton of huge announcements, but the biggest may just be DMC, the fifth game in the Devil May Cry series. DMC will be the first game in the franchise developed outside of Japan, as Capcom has selected Ninja Theory (Heavenly Sword) to develop Dante's next adventure, which is currently without a release date.

DMC won't leave the franchise's original home completely behind as Hedeaki Itsuno, who has worked on all previous titles in the series, will oversee the project. Other staff members from Capcom's R&D division will also join forces with Ninja Theory to bring the game to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Capcom had plenty more to say about Dante's new game with the short title:

From its debut on PlayStation 2 in 2001, the Devil May Cry series has been synonymous with stylish action, rewarding combat and a brash, smart-talking protagonist. This "Devil May Cry DNA" remains but is now injected with a dark and brutal gameplay that promises to redefine the franchise.

Set against a contemporary backdrop, DMC will depict a duplicitous world where nothing is ever as it seems and the line between good and evil is constantly blurred. Spurred into action by the promises of a trusted relation, Dante bursts into this world intent on revenge at any cost. DMC will retain the series' signature mix of sword and gunplay but add additional weapons, all new powers and a revitalised gameplay system as players encounter the game's devilish mix of enemies and navigate the rich, interactive environment.

Capcom has also released a handful of screenshots, that showcase Dante's new jet black hair. Gone is his signature shock of white hair and in its place is a makeover that makes him resemble Edward Cullen from the Twilight Saga.

Judge for yourself by viewing our DMC screenshot gallery.

The simplified title. A new look for Dante. A new developer. All signs point towards a reboot for the Devil May Cry series.

We'll have more soon.
