News: Two down. What about The Simpsons, Konami?

After 18 years, Konami is finally bringing the six-player X-Men arcade game to home consoles. Dubbed X-Men Arcade, it'll be available on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade before the end of the year.

The home conversion will be developed by Backbone Entertainment (who are the go-to developers when it comes to retro re-releases on the PSN and XBLA) and will recreate everything we all loved about the game back in 1992. Players will once again be able to choose from Cyclops, Colossus, Dazzler, Nightcrawler, Storm and Wolverine as they battle hundreds of Sentinels, Pyro, the Blob, Wendigo, Nimrod, the White Queen, Juggernaut and Mystique before the final battle with Magneto himself.

As in the arcade original, multiplayer gaming will be a big part of X-Men Arcade. Konami is including a 2-4 player local multiplayer mode and a 2-6 player drop-in/drop-out online multiplayer mode. To give seasoned X-Men Arcade players a new challenge, Konami is also incorporating multiple difficulty modes.

"Just like with our comics, Marvel has a rich history of great video games, and we're happy to play our part with Konami reintroducing this classic to fans of all ages," said Seth Lehman, Vice President of Digital Licensing for Marvel. "Fans have been clamoring for X-Men Arcade to hit consoles for 18 years now, and we're confident they'll find this re-release was worth the wait. The game looks and plays exactly like we remember it - all without the added worries of being low on quarters when you're closing in on Magneto."

No price was announced for X-Men Arcade, but I think I speak for everyone who was a kid in 1992 when I say it'll definitely be less than the number of quarters I pumped into the original arcade version.
