News: Barry McGuire knows where to find the Eve of Destruction this fall.
A few months ago Atari announced the latest game in their Test Drive series, Test Drive: Eve of Destruction for the PlayStation 2. The game was said to be a departure from normal road racing and the focus was going to be "extreme racing events". Eve of Destruction will be the first game in the series to feature vehicle damage, dirt tracks, crazy events and "unorthodox" vehicles like school buses, taxis and hearses.
Among the 25 crazy events Atari has planned for the game, Atari again highlighted these three:
Demo Derbyаis your basic demolition derby where theаlast car standing wins.
Trailer Race pits players against each other in a race with each of them towing a big trailer. The one that finishes with the most pieces of their trailer still attached is the winner.
Then there's the Gauntlet, which puts the driver in the seat of a hearse attempting to complete a set number of laps as other players try to stop you. Why a hearse? Who knows, maybe they're trying to tap into that massive "Six Feet Under" fanbase.
"We are thrilled to bring Test Drive: Eve of Destruction, the sequel to 2002's Platinum Hits Test Drive to Xbox fans this Fall," said Nancy MacIntyre, Vice President of Marketing for Atari's Beverly Studios. "Monster Games has reinvigorated the Test Drive franchise with this fresh departure from static road-course racing without losing touch with the core elements that have made Test Drive one of the most recognized and successful racing franchises in video game history."
Test Drive: Eve of Destruction is being developed by Monster Games and will hit the Xbox and PS2 this September.
