News: Nintendo is readying it's first Major League Baseball game in five years.
After it was announced that Take Two only held the exclusive rights to third party MLB games, I mused that Nintendo hasn't put out a baseball game since Ken Griffey Jr's Slugfest in 1999. It appears they were just waiting a week to make me look stupid.
Nintendo Pennant Chase Baseball is being co-developed by Exile Interactive and Nintendo and is currently on track for an April 4 release.
Pennant Chase Baseball will feature all 30 Major League teams and ballparks and every Major League player as it's officially licensed by the Players Association. Bob Brenly, Rick Rizzs and Tom Hutyler will provide the play-by-play and David Ortiz of the World Champion Boston Red Sox will grace the cover.
We don't really know anything else about the game, but Nintendo cryptically had this to say about the gameplay modes:
"Nintendo Pennant Chase Baseball will feature new game modes that combine the authenticity of Major League Baseball with the great game play that consumers have come to expect from Nintendo."
It almost sounds like this will be a different kind of baseball game than the standard simulation we're used to. The game's official website only goes to a copy of the press release now, but we'll know more soon enough, April 4 (and the real baseball season) is only a few weeks away.
