News: Sonic's evil twin gets a game of his own with guns, lots of guns.
During the Game Developer's Conference, Sonic the Hedgehog was one of the inaugural members of the Walk of Game. To commemerate this joyous occasion, Sega showed some footage from a new game titled "Shadow the Hedgehog". It featured Sonic's doppleganger firing guns, riding vehicles and basically GTA-ing the Sonicverse. But until now we didn't have any concrete information about the game.
Now we know that Shadow the Hedgehog is scheduled to ship this winter for the PS2, Xbox and GameCube and is being developed by Sega Studio USA under the direction of Takashi Iizuka. Iizuka has previously worked on all of the 3D Sonic titles including Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes.
"The Sonic franchise has sold more than 38-million units worldwide and SEGA plans to support this new brand with a complimentary lineup of new Sonic products across all platforms in 2005," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. "We expect Shadow The Hedgehog to be a cornerstone title in this strategy as well as a new and dynamic brand for SEGA."
Shadow will be given 50 missions of weapons and vehicles as he is caught in the middle of a threeway battle between the G.U.N. Army, Dr. Eggman (Robotnik) and aliens.
And like any good anti-hero, Shadow can't remember his past and as players move through the game they will begin to piece that past together. In an interesting twist, players will be able to control the big secret of Shadow's past by taking different routes during the game. This big secret can actually change each time players go through the game depending upon their actions.
"Since we first introduced him in Sonic Adventure 2, we have wanted to feature Shadow in his own game," said Takashi Iizuka, Game Director, SEGA Studio USA. "We maintained Shadow as a mysterious character and now fans can control his destiny by engaging in a unique gameplay experience that offers a multitude of possibilities!"
We'll have more as it steps out into the light.
