News: Namco is resurrecting the protector of the underground and his bicycle pump.

Dig Dug is quite possibly the greatest game ever where the hero pumps up underground monsters with a bicycle pump until they explode. With a great foundation like that, Namco is bringing back Sir Dug in Dig Dug: Digging Strike for the DS this fall.

Digging Strike will put players through 15 levels with over 80 stages of digging action. You'll start on the top screen in a 3D maze and then jump underground to the bottom screen to wipe out the monsters in hand-to-pump combat. It doesn't sound like the stylus is going to be used.

"'Dig Dug Digging Strike' is more than a tribute to the 1982 classic drilling action game," said Yoshi Niki, Business Unit Director at Namco Hometek Inc. "This new installment in the franchise optimizes the dual-screen action of the Nintendo DS to deliver the most thrilling and entertaining 'Dig Dug' adventure to date."

Namco is also inlcuding parody mini-games of several of their classic titles to help advance the digging once and for all.

We'll have more on Dig Dug: Digging Strike soon.
