News: The King of All Cosmos goes to that great bargain bin in the sky...

Over the week a countdown clock was running on the Namco's official Katamari page. Yesterday we found out what it was counting down to: the Katamari development team is disbanding.

Yes friends, it appears that the King of All Cosmos is packing his bags and won't be appearing in any more games for a very long time. No new sequels are being planned and it also said that Dr. Katamari (I'm guessing Katamari creator Keita Takahashi) is working on a new game (not related to Katamari) for the company.

With Takahashi's baffling hatred of all things game-related and complete distaste for sequels I figured this announcement was coming sooner rather than later. It's strange. Part of me is glad that Namco has no plans to ride the series into the ground with quickie sequels and instead have left us with an almost perfect trilogy of games. But the other half of me is sad that I've likely played all the Katamari I will ever play.

So with that, I tip my glass to the King. May he reign in our hearts forever!
