News: Mortal Kombat: Deception will hit stores this Fall, just in time for a red Christmas.

A full ten months after Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon confirmed the existence of Mortal Kombat 6 in PSM comes the official announcement from Midway. Mortal Kombat: Deception is scheduled for a Fall 2004 release on the PS2 and Xbox.

The game's early feature list is like a laundry list of everything that fans of th eseries expect from a new MK title:
  • an innovative fighting system
  • unparalleled depth
  • brutally intense action that will appeal to long-time Mortal Kombat fans as well as next-generation gamers
  • lightning-fast hand-to-hand and special weapons combat
  • secret and returning characters
  • moves and combinations with new death-dealing battles and fatalities

"Mortal Kombat: Deception promises to take this revolutionary fighting franchise to an new level", said Steve Allison, chief marketing officer, Midway. "With a host of new features including multiple fatalities per character, multi-tiered interactive backgrounds and extensive new game modes, Mortal Kombat: Deception will set a precedent for all other fighting games to follow."

It's interesting that two of the new features, multiple fatalities per character and multi-tiered interactive backgrounds, were two things that were featured heavily in the first couple MK games, but Midway shied away from them in Deadly Alliance to make the game stand out more for it's fighting engine than the standard Mortal Kombat bloodbath.

There was also no mention of online play, which according to the PSM article was all but certain to be included in the game. Whatever develops, we'll keep you posted.
