News: Hot off of the success of Everything or Nothing, EA lets their next project slip out, a sequel to the greatest console FPS ever, GoldenEye.
James Bond Will Return. Those famous words appear at the end of every Bond film to tell everyone that the world's greatest spy will come back to save that world whenever he is needed. So today Electronic Arts is proudly crowing that not only is Everything or Nothing receiving critical acclaim from all over the world, but also that James Bond will return in a sequel to perhaps the best console FPS ever, GoldenEye.
In GoldenEye 2, players will explore the dark side of the Bond underworld, playing an agent who was a candidate for 00 status before being dismissed from MI6 for reckless brutality. Players will join ranks with the legendary super-villain Auric Goldfinger, fighting for control of the world's greatest criminal organization.
Right now the game's storyline sounds like it has absolutely nothing to do with GoldenEye. I'm afraid that EA might be using the presence of Goldfinger as an excuse to use any variation of the word "gold" in the title and connect the game to GoldenEye. This could be doing a disservice to a game that sounds very interesting. A good Bond villain is often more fun than Bond himself, and if EA can pull that off they'll have a hell of a game on their hands, regardless of the title.
Storyline aside, the game is being developed by EA Los Angeles and not the original GoldenEye team, who split off from Rare and formed Free Radical Design. GoldenEye 2 is scheduled for a Holiday 2004 release for "multiple console platforms".
