News: Sega's blue speedster runs to the Wii.
Sega announced this morning that Sonic is officially coming to the Wii sometime next year. While there was little doubt the Hedgehog was coming to the Wii, Sega has confirmed that it will be in an exclusive game that fully uses the Wiimote.
In Sonic Wild Fire, the Chaos Emeralds are safe for now and instead Sonic has to rescue the missing pages of the Arabian Nights. The Eastern influence will add to the series and take Sonic running past "brightly colored mosaic tiles, glistening oases, swaying palm trees and crumbling stone columns" for the first time.
And how will Sonic run? Why with the Wiimote of course. Holding the controller horizontally, like the handlebars of a motorcycle, will send Sonic dashing, jumping and turning in any way the player can move. The Wiimote will also be put to good use with a huge slate of multiplayer mini-games.
Sonic Wild Fire is currently scheduled to ship sometime in 2007. We'll keep you posted.
