News: The Contents are Under Pressure and they're primed to explode!... I'm very sorry for that.
At E3 Atari promised an urban revolution would come from a graffiti game known as Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure. Little else was revealed, beyond the involvement of urban clothing king Marc Ecko. But now a few more details a trickling out of the paint can.
Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure is being developed by Gaming Target favorite The Collective. The story will follow Trane, a youing graffiti artist in New Radius and according to Atari, he must use a combination of combat, action, advenutre and stealth to place his graffiti tag all over the city in a fight for creative expression.
"We have the chance to finally tell the urban narrative the right way...with soul and sincerity in the real voice of our culture," said Marc Ecko. "Atari shares my passion for this project. They understand that the video game is the ideal medium to deliver a fully immersive urban experience. Working with The Collective, we're going to shatter cliche stereotypes and create the first truly authentic urban video game experience."
Atari is also touting the game's Get In, Get Up and Get Out gameplay style. "Gamers [will have] a unique arsenal of swift stealth and street fighting abilities to GET IN restricted areas of New Radius and battle through the city's rough streets; the dexterity and agility to scale any object in order to GET UP and place graffiti tags, spreading the message of rebellion; and the ingenuity to evade, escape and GET OUT."
To bring it all together, Marc Ecko and fifty of the world's most elite graffiti artists will work closely with The Collective to make Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure as authentic to the urban experience as possible.
Strangely, Atari was very specific that only the PlayStation 2 version was shipping in the second half of 2005. There was no mention of the Xbox version, which was said to be in development at E3. We'll keep you posted either way.
