News: Jaws swims in the video game waters yet again.
A long time ago we let you know that Appaloosa was developing an Xbox and PS2 game that took place from the point of view of a shark. That game was known as Sole Predator and Appaloosa was looking for a publisher for that title for several years. In a roundabout way it looks like they've finally found one.
Last month Majesco announced that they would be publishing Jaws, a game based on the blockbuster movie, next summer and that it would be developed by Appaloosa Interactive. To further connect this game to Sole Predator, Majesco has stated that Jaws will take place from the point of view of the shark and both sharks have been "driven to a frenzy by underwater sonic emanations."
"Without a doubt, Jaws is one of the most revered classics of all time. The film's mixture of action, adventure and suspense terrified the masses," said Jesse Sutton, chief executive officer of Majesco. "The game will capture that same action and excitement as the movie, but this time, the shark enjoys some pay-back."
Neither Majesco nor Appaloosa have yet announced that Sole Predator and Jaws are the same game. But I have to ask, is the world ready for another Jaws game? A Jaws game was created for the NES by LJN (now Acclaim, now bankrupt) and it was (to put it kindly) not very good.
I have contacted Appaloosa about this, but I haven't heard back yet. But when we hear anything else about Jaws, we'll let you know.
