News: With 500,000 expected in the first 10 days.

Nintendo has announced that the first two days of DS Lite sales have resulted in 136,500 systems finding their way into happy homes. Those are just ridiculous numbers for a rerelease of an already extremely popular system.

Talking to news service Reuters, an unnamed Nintendo executive stated that the Lite launch should match the 500,000 units the original DS sold in its first ten days of availability.

Meanwhile, New Super Mario Bros. has been crowned the king of May by the NPD Group's monthly sales numbers. Over 367,000 copies were sold after the game went on sale May 15, or in other words, when half the month was already gone.

Nintendo helpfully pointed out that meant a copy of New Super Mario Bros. was sold every four seconds in the month of May.
