News: 15 years old and Sonic is still ready to run.
On Sonic's 15th birthday (the Genesis got Sonic the Hedgehog on June 23, 1991), Sega has announced that the first Sonic game will run onto the GBA this November.
Dubbed Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis, the game will be an exact recreation of Sonic's first adventure with an added save feature and the ability to use Sonic's Spin Dash move.
In addition to this remake, Sonic will spend his birthday year starring in the already announced Sonic the Hedgehog for the PS3 and Xbox 360 and Sonic Rivals for the PSP. In early 2007, Sonic will also hit the Wii in Sonic Wild Fire.
"Sonic's 15th birthday is a landmark occasion bringing SEGA and Sonic fans together to celebrate the hedgehog's trademark speed, heroism, and attitude," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. "The breathtaking speed and gameplay innovation that Sonic introduced in 1991 will reach new heights in Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic Rivals, and Sonic's new adventure for the Wii. These titles continue a super-Sonic legacy of ground-breaking gameplay and story elements that only next-gen consoles can deliver."
We'll definitely have more Sonic news as the year goes on. In the meantime, Sonic fans would do well to check out our History of Sonic the Hedgehog.
