News: The BIG announcement is... the release date?
Epic's Mark Rein promised a big Gears of War announcement would be happening this week and I guess is it. Microsoft has constantly referred to Gears' release date as Emergence Day and today we learned ED (ooh, bad acronym) will be November 12, 2006. Or pretty much when everybody assumed the game was going to be released.
As is the style at the time, Gears of War will come in two flavors: a standard edition for $59.99 and a collector's edition for $69.99. The collector's edition will include the Destroyed Beauty art book that was a big hit at this year's E3, a "Making of" DVD and it will come in a collectible metal box. Eagle-eyed observers will note that the standard edition has also decided to leave behind the $49.99 pricepoint that all previous MS-published 360 games launched at.
УOur vision is to deliver a one-two punch of cinematic action paired with a thrilling and compelling interactive experience,Ф said Cliff Bleszinski, lead designer at Epic. УWith СGears of War' we've created a title that will place gamers directly in the shadows of a ravaged world, surrounded by the beautiful remnants of a destroyed city and the horrific dangers that hide in the rubble.Ф
Hopefully Epic and Microsoft will announce something truly BIG (like say a demo) about Gears of War soon. And if they do, we'll be there.
