News: 4 million systems marching to stores worldwide by the end of the year.
With fears circling the Internet that Sony will not ship 500,000 PS3s on launch day, Nintendo has turned around and confirmed its going to be a Wii-ry merry Christmas.
Nintendo plans to ship four million Wii consoles to stores worldwide in 2006, with the majority of them going to North America. Even with this huge number, Nintendo expects shortages, but here's what they plan to do about it:
Nintendo is maximizing all its resources for a rapid replenishment program designed to consistently pump Wii consoles into the supply pipeline and keep retailers' shelves as filled as possible. In addition, Nintendo factories are working around the clock manufacturing the extraordinary new system. Nintendo is employing fleets of planes, cargo ships, trains and ground vehicles in each global market to maintain the best supply flow possible, starting in the Americas.
And with all of this Wii goodwill sweeping the Internet, Nintendo has even set up a MySpace community for prospective Wii gamers to tell the world "How Wii Play".
The Wii will launch in America on November 19, followed by the Japanese launch on December 2 and the European launch on December 8.
