News: Batten down the hatches, Sid Meier's band of pirates are attempting to board.

2K Games has announced that Sid Meier's Pirates! will be coming to the PSP in January 2007. The portable port of the PC and Xbox hit will feature "players [taking] the role of a Pirate Captain in the 17th century Caribbean - amassing fortune and fame in an attempt to seize a rightful place as one of the most revered and feared pirates in history."

"Sid Meier's Pirates! is already a proven success," said Christoph Hartmann, President of 2K. "The universal appeal and compelling gameplay in Pirates! makes it a perfect match for the PSP system."

"We love the new possibilities from handheld systems like the PSP system," added Sid Meier, Director of Creative Development at Firaxis Games. "Pirates! for the PSP system allows players to shape the heroic life of a pirate while embracing the pirate's way of life - always on the go!"

We'll have more on Sid Meier's Pirates! soon.
