News: Burnout Dominator is coming to the PS2 and PSP next year.
With Criterion hard at work on Burnout 5 for the PS3 and Xbox 360, another EA team, EA UK, will bring the series back to the PS2. Burnout Dominator is scheduled to ship in 2007 for the PS2 and PSP. The game will be a completely new entry in the series that will be available exclusively on the PS2 and PSP.
Burnout Dominator will serve up a new set of World Tour events where aggressive driving is still the name of the game. Players will be encouraged to perform burnouts to max out their score and take the lead. Or as EA puts it, "[it will take] you to the very edge of control, punishing the smallest mistakes and rewarding drivers for taking outrageous risks."
"The series was born on the PlayStation 2, and Burnout Dominator is about celebrating the essence of Burnout," said Nick Channon, senior producer of Burnout Dominator. "Burnout Dominator focuses on the reckless skill-based racing and fear of crashing that fuelled the first games."
This will be the first console game in the Burnout series not developed by Criterion (Burnout Legends for the DS was developed by Visual Impact), so it will be interesting to see how EA UK will handle the Burnout formula. It's also interesting that with the PS3 now available the PS2 is still racking up new titles every day.
We'll have more on Burnout Dominator soon.
