News: We're number 2! We're number 2!
Nintendo has revealed their third quarter financials and the results are very promising for the future of the house of Mario.
While Nintendo did not hit their target of selling 4 million Wiis by the end of 2006, they did manufacture that many and ended up selling 3.19 million systems. That numbre is currently good for second place in the "next-gen wars." The company says they are still on track to ship 6 million systems by March 31.
More impressive is the announcement that "19 software titles for Nintendo platforms reached or surpassed 1 million units." The breakdown includes three games for the Wii, three for the GBA and 13 for the DS with New Super Mario Bros. leading the way with 8.64 million copies sold. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was the top selling title on the Wii, but numbers were not revealed.
Other funs facts include:
Nearly 1.4 million Wii hardware systems have connected to the Internet worldwide (as of 1/24/07).
Approximately 1.5 million Virtual Console games have been downloaded and sold to customers worldwide (as of 1/24/07).
More than 3.5 million unique users have enjoyed game play on Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection for Nintendo DS, with far more than 100 million connections (as of 1/24/07).
We'll have more on Nintendo's future soon.
