News: Hold the entire Virtual Console in the palm of your hand...

eSOL, a Japanese company that creates embedded middleware products, has announced Nintendo has chosen to use their memory management software in the Wii.

Nintendo will use eSOL's "PrFILE2" and "PrUSB/Host" middleware solutions. PrFILE2 "provides file management functions which read and write data of SD memory cards, as well as other media." and PrUSB/Host provides USB memory functions.

Gamers have been clamoring for a USB solution for the Wii since the system's launch and it looks like it will finally become a reality. However it is currently unknown when this functionality will be added to the Wii.

And from here it's not a major leap to hope that Nintendo will one day offer support for USB Hard Drives.
