News: Wow, that's a lot of Mario spinoffs (kidding).
Bloomberg, the business bible, has posted a news story detailing Nintendo's development future.
According to Nintendo President Satoru Iwata, the company is working on 45 games for the Wii and 79 for the DS. The article goes on to quote the President as saying "The next batch of games will be introduced to the market at the end of summer."
That statement is just vague that it could mean anything from a strong Nintendo presence at the Tokyo Game Show to solid 2007 release dates for the "big 3" of Smash Bros. Brawl, Metroid Prime 3 and Mario Galaxy.
There is also a real possibility that a lot of these games will never make it out of Japan. Others will no doubt stay prototypes forever.
This all comes on the heels of Nintendo posting a net income of $354 million on the back of huge Wii sales. The company also said they expect to sell 14 million Wii systems worldwide between April 1, 2007 and March 31, 2008.
So whatever the reality of Nintendo's game development future is, you can be sure the company has a bright 2007 ahead of it.
