News: And a new free service will open the 'tap to even more gamers.
Online game service Gametap has announced that when Tomb Raider: Anniversary will be available to download from Gametap they same day it lands in stores on June 5. Anniversary's "day-and-date" arrival on the Gametap makes it the first game to appear in stores and on the download service on the same day.
УThis is the first new deal with a major game publisher that will enable GameTap to feature the hottest games of today and tomorrow for subscription play in the same windows as traditional retail outlets,Ф said Stuart Snyder, GameTap's senior vice president and general manager.
Gametap has also announced that they will be offering a new "free-to-play" tier to their service starting May 31. This ad-supported version of Gametap will offer 30 games, with new ones added every week on a rotating basis. The first batch of games will include Metal Slug, Bust-A-Move, Space Invaders, Joust, Robotron: 2084, and Rampage. Lara Croft's last adventure, Tomb Raider: Legend, will also be available in this first wave of games.
We'll have more on the ever evolving, and increasingly intriguing, Gametap service soon.
