News: 2K Games' sleeps with the fishes.
Just days after announcing a new project for D3 Publisher, Illusion Softworks has announced they are also developing Mafia II for 2K Games. The sequel to one of the best gangster games not called GTA will be coming to the PC and unspecified next-generation consoles sometime in the future.
Mafia II will once again take place in the late 1940's and early 1950's and feature on-foot and driving missions. 2K has also promised a "cinematic Hollywood movie experience with strong, believable characters in a living, breathing city."
"As the original Mafia was a big success, we are excited to leverage the power of next generation console technology to create an all-new experience, while embracing the elements that resonated with the previous game's fans," said Christoph Hartmann, President of 2K. "The 'wow' factor of Mafia 2 is definitely the benchmark-setting visual quality and action that you expect to see only in Hollywood movies."
That's about all we currently know about Mafia II, but we'll have more soon.
