Trivia: Mortal Kombat (SNES)

  • Nintendo demanded that all of the blood had to be removed from the game and replaced with "sweat."

  • Three fatalities were changed from the arcade original:

Sub-Zero originally ripped his opponent's head off revealing a dangling spinal cord. In the SNES version he freezes his opponent and then smashes them into tiny pieces.

Johnny Cage originally decapitated his opponent with an uppercut. In the SNES version he kicks them in the chest and they die.

Kano originally reaches into his opponent's chest and pulls out their still beating heart. In the SNES version he reaches into their chest and pulls out his own empty hand.

  • Johnny Cage's "Crotch Punch" cannot be used against Sonya.

  • Due to copyright issues, Raiden was renamed "Rayden" for the Super NES, Genesis and Game Boy releases.
