News: Better save those GameCube controllers.

Like Super Smash Bros. Brawl before it, a new preview of Mario Kart Wii at 1UP has revealed everyone's favorite kart racing series will support all four methods of control on the Wii:

  • Wii Remote turned on it's side (also compatible with the Wii Wheel in this configuration)
  • Wii Remote and Nunchuk
  • Classic Controller
  • GameCube Controller

The 1UP writers had this to say about the new Wii Wheel (which will be included with the game): "[It] took a little while to get used to (we were constantly over-steering). But after a few laps around the track, we started to adjust."

They also revealed that performing tricks on the GameCube and Classic controllers was a bit tricky. When using either Wii Remote configuration, just shaking the Wiimote will pull off tricks. 1UP also noted that it was awkward to pull off stunts using either of the regular controllers because doing so required reaching for the directional pad.

We'll have more on Mario Kart Wii soon.
