Smash Bros. Brawl won't play on some Wiis @ Gaming Target

While Super Smash Bros. Brawl is no doubt the biggest game release the Wii has seen yet, that doesn't mean it has gone smoothly for every new SSBB owner. According to Nintendo, because Brawl uses a double-layer DVD, a faulty laser on some Wii systems may not have the necessary power to read the information on the second layer. So this has caused some SSBB owners to experience disc read errors.

But Nintendo has already set up a repair form to report the problem and arrange to send your underpowered Wii in for repair. The company has also said this repair will be free and all shipping charges will be paid by Nintendo.

Here's the official Nintendo line on the problem:

Super Smash Bros. Brawl utilizes a double-layer disc which has a large memory capacity. A very small percentage of Wii consoles may have trouble consistently reading data off this large capacity disc if there is some contamination on the lens of the disc drive. Nintendo has specialized cleaning equipment that can resolve this problem. (Please do NOT attempt to clean the lens yourself, as you may damage the system.)
