News: And some nice details on Tetris and Bomberman for WiiWare.
The June 2008 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly has begun arriving in subscriber's mailboxes and there is plenty of big Nintendo news to be found in the issue's "35 Retro Revivals" cover story (which actually only features 16 games).
First, it appears that Tecmo Bowl: Kickoff will only be coming to the DS and Wii. The game will arrive on the DS first, with the Wii version appearing a little while later. It will also sport new 3D graphics, but a play style that is very similar to the Tecmo Super Bowl of old.
Next, new downloadable versions of
Tetris and
Bomberman will be coming to the WiiWare service in the Summer and Fall, respectively. Both games look the most "classic" they have in years, but they'll still have plenty of new bells and whistles including Mii support and special moves activated by shaking the Wii Remote.
Finally, Taito is bring Space Invaders back (again) this Summer with Space Invaders Extreme. That we knew. But they are also bringing the series back from the perspective of the aliens in the Wii-exclusive
Invaders Get Even this Fall. Invaders Get Even seems to expand the ship portions of Destroy All Humans! out into a full game while adding "elements of real-time strategy" and the ability to control 300 ships at once.
In addition to Nintendo news, the cover story also includes details on some other upcoming including a bunch of screenshots from the upcoming Splatterhouse remake (for the PS3 and Xbox 360). It looks like a really good time to be a fan of retro games.
