Dead Rising 2 is finally officially announced @ Gaming Target

News: Are you prepared to become a zombie genocider again?

After months of rumors and teasing, Capcom has officially announced Dead Rising 2. And not only that, but all of the rumors surrounding the game appear to be true:

The game is being developed by the Canadian development Blue Castle Games

Development is supervised by key members of the Dead Rising team including Keiji Inafune.

The game will be set in the Las Vegas-inspired Fortune City

And Dead Rising 2 will be a multiplatform release for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

According to Capcom, Dead Rising 2 will be set several years after the events of the first game. And as zombie outbreaks are wont to do, the infection was unable to be contained at the Willamette Mall. Aside from the setting, Capcom also confirmed that a variety of new weapons will be on hand to help dispatch the zombie horde (be on the look at for roulette wheel-fu).

No release date (or whether original protagonist Frank West would return*) was revealed, but Capcom has promised that more details concerning the story and gameplay will be announced soon.

And we will be sure to stay on top of any and all Dead Rising 2 announcements.

*UPDATE: Capcom has released a few screenshots and the star of the game is most definitely NOT Frank West. Instead he's some kind of generic blonde motocross guy.

Capcom has also confirmed that the purported "leaked footage" of Dead Rising 2 that was posted on YouTube on Friday is the game's first official trailer.
