News: With development by Sonic co-creator Hirokazu Yasuhara.
Gamasutra recently conducted an interview with Namco Bandai Games America Executive Vice President and COO Makoto Iwai. In the interview, Iwai revealed that the company is working on a new Pac-Man to celebrate the hungry yellow circle's 30th anniversary. Development on the game is being headed up by Hirokazu Yasuhara, one of the co-creators of Sonic the Hedgehog.
The game is currently on track for a 2010 release:
"We are in the midst of making Pac-Man come back because his 30th anniversary is in 2010 actually," said Iwai. "As a group, we feel like we should do something to make him come back. So, there's one project that we started working on, and [Yasuhara is] part of it."
It's currently unknown if the game will be a maze game rendered in the classic Pac-Man fashion like the 2007 Xbox Live Arcade game Pac-Man: Championship Edition or if it will be similar to the 3D platforming found in the Pac-Man World series.
