News: Will a console exclusive character finally stay exclusive?
Eidos has announced that the Clown Prince of Crime himself, The Joker, will be a playable character exclusively in the PlayStation 3 version of Batman: Arkham Asylum. Players will be able to use The Joker in the "Challenge" portion of the game, time based bonus modes where players compete for the highest score by beating up the most goons without dying (in survival mode) or taking them out silently (in Invisible Predator mode).
PS3 owners will have to have their system connected to the Internet to donwload the playable Joker from the PlayStation Network. Here's what Eidos had to say:
Eidos Interactive and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announce that The Joker will be an exclusive playable character in Batman: Arkham Asylum for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system. The character will be made available upon release as a free downloadable character through PlayStation Network for the PlayStation 3 and can be played in Challenge Maps from the game. Fans can get additional information in the June issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine.
Of course, now it's only a matter of time before Eidos announces "Heath Ledger Joker" or "Jack Nicholson Joker" or even "Superfriends Joker" for the Xbox 360.
We'll have more soon.
