News: A new "New Age of Heroes" is almost upon us.
After what seems like years of rumors and wishful thinking, Capcom has finally announced they will be bringing Marvel vs Capcom 2 to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade this Summer. The arcade 2D fighting classic will be brought to the PSN and XBLA by Backbone Entertainment (the same company behind the downloadable version of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix), although, according to Capcom, the game will be based on the Dreamcast version.
Marvel vs Capcom 2 will include 56 characters from the company's two universes including Ryu, Chun-Li, Jill Valentine, Mega Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Wolverine and Spider-Man. Best of all, all 56 characters will be unlocked from the start.
Like Street Fighter II HD Remix, MvC2 will include online play in a variety of different modes. The game will also be brought into the 21st century with widescreen graphics and two HD filtering options: Crisp and Smooth. Options will also be included to play with unfiltered character models and the original 4:3 screen size. Capcom also wants gamers to know that the 3D backgrounds originally created for the Dreamcast version were created in HD (even though they had to be scaled down so the DC could handle it) and those are the backgrounds that will be used in the PSN and XBLA versions to make this the best looking version of the game yet. Finally, an option for custom soundtracks will be included.
Marvel vs Capcom 2 will be available this Summer, but a demo will be added to the PlayStation Network this Thursday, April 30. It will include six characters: Ryu, Chun Li, Strider, Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Wolverine. An XBLA demo will not be released until the full game is released in the Summer. That full game will set gamers back $14.99 on the PSN or 1200 Microsoft Points on the XBLA. A far cry from the $50-100 the game currently commands on eBay.
We'll have more soon.
