News: Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny will be similar to SCIV, but it's not a port.

GameSpot has broken the news that the Soul Calibur series is coming to the PSP in the form of Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny this Summer.

While not specifically a port of Soul Calibur IV, Broken Destiny will be heavily based on the latest addition to the series. One of the key differences is that the three Star Wars characters featured in Soul Calibur IV, Darth Vader, Yoda and the Apprentice, will not appear in the game. Instead, Broken Destiny will receive a new character by the name of Dampierre. He will use twin daggers tucked into sheaths attached to his forearms and his name could be a play on the half-man/half-vampire Dhampir from folklore. Other characters that will appear in the game include Taki, Mitsurugi, Tira, Astaroth, Ivy, Cassandra, Voldo, Siegfried, and Hilde.

According to GameSpot, Broken Destiny is being built from the ground up to target beginners and novice players. The game will include arcade, versus, and survival modes as well as the patented Soul Calibur character creation tool.

Finally, the game's stages will be built with varying lighting effects "so that the stages will have different times of day." GameSpot gave the example that "[y]ou could be slicing your way to victory with a glorious sunset at your back instead of winning in broad daylight all the time."

We'll have more soon.
