News: Sony Europe CEO David Reeves opines on the PS3's future.
David Reeves is the CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe... for one more day. Tomorrow he will retire from his position and spend the his days relaxing.
But before that happens, Mr. Reeves has consulted his crystal ball and opined on the future of the PlayStation 3 one last time to GamesIndustry.biz. So, without comment, here is what he believes the future holds for the PS3:
"I don't think it will be next year, but in three to five years it will become dominant on the market. The legacy will be that people will see a tortoise and hare situation. In a way, in the end it will be a dead heat. People will say PS3 took a while to get going but it really caught up very quickly and confounded many of the critics from the first year."
Three to five years from now would place the PS3's dominance in the period between 2012 and 2014. That would be between six and eight years after the system was launched. According to this timeline, the PS3's "domination" of the Wii and Xbox 360 will begin right around the time when the seventh generation of consoles gives way to the eighth.
To quote a rather famous member of the ghost removal community: "I am going to miss him."
