News: Mortal Kombat fans are in for a wait.
Midway may not have been at this year's E3 expo, but Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon has updated his twitter account, noobde, with some details on the future of the fighting franchise.
According to Boon, "[Mortal Kombat 9] is over a year away." The game, which has been said will not be a crossover game like the recent Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, was announced in January. Although which platforms it will appear on is still a mystery. Boon would go on to say that it's probably too early to start discussing specific details about the game.
Due to their recent bankruptcy, all of Midway's assets (including the Mortal Kombat franchise) will go up for auction sometime in June. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (Midway's publishing partner on MK vs DCU) is expected to purchase the company. It's likely we'll find out more about Mortal Kombat 9 after the acquisition is complete.
We'll have more soon.
